IOWMCC Awards Night Report
Isle of Wight Motorcycle Club Awards Night (2021 season) Newclose County Cricket Ground – 09/04/22
The Isle of Wight Motorcycle Club held the Award presentations, for the 2021 season, on Saturday 9th of April, at the Newclose County Cricket Ground, Newport. The evening began with a 2-course meal, closely followed by the Awards Ceremony. After the awards, around 80 club members were entertained with live music, courtesy of the brilliant JC, Angelina & Friends - a fitting way to help celebrate the rider’s achievements throughout 2021. The Club would like to thank Nikki Price and all her Staff at the Pavilion Bar and Restaurant for their excellent service.
Malcolm Hawkins performed his Master of Ceremony role superbly and we are very grateful for his help at such an important event in Club’s calendar. The awards were presented by local trials star George Gosden. George recently recorded his first podium place in the 2022 British Expert Trials Championship, at Neath, in South Wales. He currently lies in 4th place overall and we wish him all the very best for his continued success at the remainder of this year’s British Trials Championship rounds.
The first presentations were made to non-riders, starting with Rachael Brodie & Viki Taylor, in recognition for all their important work on the Club’s Committee. Rachael is the Club Secretary whilst Viki has the unenviable task of Club Treasurer. Richard Crickmore and Millie Duval were rewarded for their excellent observing skills. Richard turned out to observe at an incredible 13 trials, just 3 short of a perfect score. The coveted ‘Clubman of The Year’ was awarded to John Coombes, who was recognised for his leadership at the Club’s flagship event, ‘The Wight Two Day Trial’ together with his enthusiasm and efforts at Committee. All class winners also received a complimentary treat – a bottle of Duck Smart, bike cleaning fluid, courtesy of the Baker Family.
Tom Richards headed up the rider awards, winning the Expert class at both the Winter and Summer Series Championships. Alfie Haydon achieved the same in the Youth Experts and he was also voted ‘Young Club Member of The Year'. However, Alfie’s dad was not going to be out done easily! Ross Haydon secured both Intermediate Championships and The Matt Russell Cup. They also won their respective class awards at the 2021 Wight Two Day Trial along with the ‘Boxing Day Father & Son Cup’. It’s fair to say the Haydon’s proved to be a formidable and unbeatable force throughout 2021. Chris Stay & George Gosden tied, with perfect rides, to win the 2021 Wight Two Day Trial. An amazing performance by both riders – the concentration & skill required to record 87 cleans spread over 2 days is very much beyond most competitors.
