The Malcolm Wells Endeavour Award was first introduced at the Golden Anniversary Trial (2017). This Award is not restricted to riders, as Malcolm Wells who donated the trophy is very keen for this award to be open to all. It will be presented to the person who has shown outstanding resolve or that has had to overcome some kind of adversity whilst attending or even getting to the trial. Riders, helpers, observers, club officials etc.

This year's recipient is Jack Ayres.

Jack decided to ride the Yamaha twinshock at this year's event; here's some of his Trial experience: Broke clutch lever assembly, but made it back to Trial Control and asked if someone might have similar to get him going again, by chance Club President Wayne Brodie had his old Montesa which they swapped levers. On the last lap ( Saturday) Jack split and flattened the Yam's front exhaust pipe which he took to the workshop and repaired on Saturday evening. Sunday arrived with Jack ready to commence battle again only to find the Yam stuck in second gear from the 2nd section of the day until the finish. Undaunted, Jack pressed on, in some very slippery conditions. On his way to the finish he towed the stricken Island youngster Riley Baker back to the pits from the sections.

When starting his last lap, Jack developed a front wheel puncture. Yes you've guessed it Jack not only finished but claimed sixth spot in the Clubman Class.

The best part of this tale of triumph over adversity is that Jack only borrowed the bike from a mate.

Jack has very kindly donated his £50.00 prize money to The Earl Mountbatten Hospice IOW.
