A big Thank you to the Morgan Family for the use of this great venue - very much appreciated. It was Andy Ryall that set the sections – once again he provided us with eight really good sections. Thanks Andy. Thanks also to Calvin Wright for setting the D route. As most of you will know I had to shoot off early to visit our Minutes Sec (Rachael Brodie) who is recovering after her surgery. You will be pleased to know, that I got there in time! And that she is feeling much better today. Rachael really appreciated your kind words & best wishes. So to the trial, Solid and steady performances from Will West & Nick Symes saw them take the wins in their respective classes. I have to mention young Jos Wright who put in a blinder, losing just 20 on his Twin shock (watch out Nick)! It was the Novice class which drew the largest entry on the day & the closest battle, between Ray Power and Brian Brockwell, for 5th & 6th places – It was Ray who squeaked in with 2 more cleans than Brian to earn the extra point. It was also really good to see Nigel Crouch back on his bike after a long absence. He managed to complete a full lap before the tiredness kicked in, it was obvious to me that he really enjoyed himself – brilliant effort.

Today’s Trial was held at Bembridge Down with the kind permission of Mr Rob Taylor – Many thanks. …. Thanks also to Rory for setting the sections (to his usual good standard!)......And also to Calvin for setting the D route….. It was Will West, once again, that led the way in the Expert Class losing just 14 marks….. Simon & Rory were involved in a close battle for 2nd & 3rd – it was Section 5 that proved to be the difference here….. The Novice Class deservedly won by Bret Coyne, although his rivals, on the, day were unable to finish, he still had to work hard to get the win….. Stuart Freeman put in a good effort in the Twin Shock Class but it was Nick that took the win losing a miserly 25….. Young Harvey Grieve took the win in the Youth Beginner Class with a confident ride. Jacob found the trial extra hard with his bike playing up pretty much all day….. Jos Wright is breathing a sigh of relief who was today riding his new Yam twin shock – his remark to me when I asked how he was getting on with it, I thought, was brilliant “its much better than Dad’s Ossa – the brakes actually work”!.....I would just like to say thank you to Stuart, Nick & Rory for helping to clear up at the end – much appreciated.

A big thank you to Trevor Strickland for allowing us to trial on his land – it’s a brilliant venue and the Club really appreciate riding here….. On behalf of the Club I would like to say a special thank you to John Townsend and Stuart Freeman for setting the sections. They stepped up when it mattered, at short notice, and battled the overgrowth to deliver eight, really tight challenging sections - Good effort!..... Will West showed us all how it should be done, loosing just one mark. Young Jos Wright also impressed - piloting his Dad’s Ossa - to his first win in the Twin Shock Class - Well Done Jos….. Bret Coyne took the win with a confident ride in the well contested Novice Class. Not much between Youth Beginner rivals, Harvey and Jacob – It was Jacob that took the win with sections one and five that made the difference. Once again Alfie Haydon, who is improving with every ride, was still smiling at the end.

The Club would like to thank Mr Colson for allowing us to use his land for the final round of the 2014 Summer Series - very much appreciated...... We must also say a big thank you to Simon Newnham & Bret Coyne for preparing the venue & setting the sections - many hours were spent clearing the 7ft bracken & other foliage with good use of a strimmer & chainsaw in places!......The trial proved to be very challenging, with plenty of climbs - Simon managed, on Sec 6, to squeeze in an amaizing 4 hill climbs - good effort! ....... Will West posted the best score of the day with just 9 marks lost but it was Bret Coyne that impressed the most with a brilliant ride, to take the win in the Novice class with a loss of just 14 - he's obviously getting the hang of his new gasser! ...... Young Alfie Haydon also deserves a mention - dispite comming off & hurting his leg he carried on - he is really enjoying his time on his bike - Great to see, well done Alfie, & of course Dad.

Between them they provided the venue, set the sections, barbecue both days, drinks, lollies, silly games & camping - outstanding! We would like to welcome newcomers M. Henry, S. Jones & T Fulljames – who all seemed to enjoy the experience & we hope to see them at future events. It was good to see Mark Allen riding again after a long absence, he picked up where he left off, dominating the A/Beg class. We hope that Simon Newnham isn’t in too much pain after injuring his hand on sec 4 – hopefully his fingers are not broken & he will be fit enough to ride the 5th Rnd at Hawthorn Manor Farm on 17/08/14 – make a note in your diaries. I would just like to remind everyone that the Summer Series consists of 5 Trials, to be eligible for an award Riders have to complete a minimum of 3 events. It is your best 3 scores that will count for the Championship.

The club would like to thank Geoff & Mary for allowing us to use their land for the 2nd Round of our Summer Series. Thanks also to the course setters - Simon Newnham, George Case, Ben Gourley, Gorden West & John Gustar. It was a trial of two halves, Secs 1 to 3 were there to lull everyone into a false sense of security before arriving at Secs 4, 5 & 6! It was the Novice Class that drew the largest entry with just 6 points separating the 1st three places. In a reversal of fortunes it was Wayne Brodie who sneaked the win closely followed by the 1st Round winner Bret Coyne. An excellent effort by Ray Power earned him 3rd place, only 1 point behind Bret. Simon Newnham, although riding unopposed in the Expert Class, rode really well & posted a competetive score. Stuart Freeman also rode confidently to get the win in the Twin Shock Class. Matt Power's bike unfortunately developed a kickstart problem preventing him from even starting the trial leaving young Jacob Furnell to take the win in the Youth Beginner Class, in his first outing since early March following his injury - excellent work. Also I have to mention young Alfie Haydon who is clearly gaining in confidence every time he rides. He seemed to be smiling all the way to the end.

Thankyou to Glenn, once again, for the use of his land for the 1st round of our Summer Series. The weather was also kind to us! Well done to Calvin for setting this trial that was full of nadgery, tight & twisting turns that took points off everyone. I saw Calvin smiling whenever anyone's feet went down! We would like to welcome newcomer Bret Coyne who took the win in the Novice Class by one point - It proved to be a silly mistake at Sec 1 where Wayne Brodie missed the penultimate gate on what otherwise would have been a clean. (Calvin is now laughing). Nick Symes took control of the Twinshock class losing just 5 points. It was good to see the return of Ben Gourley in his 1st time out this year with a confident ride. Jos Wright (Yth Expert) B.Penn (Yth Novice) and Harvey Grieve (Yth Beg) all rode really well to take wins in their respective Classes. Matt Power appears to be gaining confidence every time I see him ride - well done Matt keep up the good work. The Club would like to wish Jos Wright a speedy recovery after an unfortunate crash near Sec 6. I understand there is nothing broken but he has a full leg bandage & he's already bored!!
