Thank you to Kate Baker, Harry and Hollie Baker, Leighanne Baker, Richard Crickmore, Adrian Daish, Ross Haydon, Steve Kent and Debs Payne for observing today, great to have a full compliment of observers. Lastly, thank you to the course setters, Calvin Wright and Nick Symes, excellent trial set out to test the riders today.

Sections 4, 6 and 7 were unreadable or not completed so do not appear on the score sheet. As a result the committee collectively agreed this trial will be considered a practice trial and will not count towards the winter series. Thank you to Kate Baker, Holly Baker, Steve Kent, Ross Hayden and Wayne Brodie for braving the conditions to observe!!

Report of the Annual Boxing Day Father and Son Cup Trial.

Weak but welcome wintery sunshine greeted the 33 entrants for the Annual Boxing Day Father and Son Cup Trial at Shorwell chalk pit, courtesy of land owner Ralph Cook.

Four laps of eight sections expertly plotted by Alan and George Gosden, Chris Stay, Josh Stephens, Rob and Riley Baker.

There can't be many clubs that can boast three British Champions signed on to ride at the same event; well, Monday saw the three musketeers line up in the expert class to treat the sizeable crowd to a display of ridiculously good riding.

Chris Stay took the expert class win on a miserly 2 marks lost, with George Gosden second on 5 marks and Becky Cook finishing on 23.

In the intermediate class the win was taken by young Daryl Biles, who put in some steady riding in the sticky conditions. Sonny Gaskin followed Biles home taking second place posting a good score of 29. One mark ahead of the fast improving AJ Shaw.

The open B class was headed home by a determined Jason Elford on 47 marks, who claimed family bragging rights over his brother Joe who finished third on 56 marks lost. Second place was taken by Tom Richards who opted to ride his fathers 40 year old SWM machine.

The open C class was won by Alan Gosden on 4 marks with Paul Baldwin on 13 marks lost and Scott Milton scooted round for 18 marks lost; Scott being under strict instructions that lunch would be served at 1.30 pm at mothers! He really had his work cut out to be in Carisbrooke for the allotted time.

The over 50 class was won by Andy Scott-Jackson, now fully recovered from his broken ribs sustained at this years Two Day Trial back in September. Only two marks seperated him and 2nd place rider Stuart Gummer, who was using the trial as a fitness workout for his up coming attempt at this years gruelling Paris-Daker rally. Phil Chase brought up the rear in third with 66 marks lost.

Mike True took first place in the Novice Class which is often closely contested, posting a great score of 16. The old timer looks set to push for the novice championship in 2023. Second spot was claimed by the ever improving Sam Jurich with 28 marks, whilst third place on this occasion belonged to Luke Jacobs with 66 marks.

Steve Jacobs had oppostion in the Adult Easy Class from new club members Mike Denness and Mark Beale who tackled the eight sections with confidence: Mike taking second on 106 marks and Mark finishing third with 146.

In the Sportsmans 50/50 Class C and B route Steve Chase had a convincing win on 44 marks with the always smiling Derek Farndell returning from a long injury lay off in second with 87 marks.

Kev Smith rode unopposed on the Sportsman D route enjoying himself with a steady ride finishing with 51 marks lost.

On the Youth B and C 50 /50 course Olly Elford is making encouraging progress and seems to be riding better on every outing, he's bound to be rewarded with a new bike any time soon ......eh Dad? Olly finished on 49 marks.

In the Youth Novice Class Riley True with 25 marks lost, headed home young master Shaw on 31 marks. Both of these guys had good rides in such sticky conditions.

The Youth Easy Class was won by Riley Baker on his new Beta machine from young Blake Buggy who also put in another confident ride on his electric Oset machine, with just 82 marks lost.

A very good turnout saw 7 teams compete in The Father and Son class. The top three places were first Alan and George Gosden; second Sam Jurich and Riley True; third Jason and Olly Elford.

The Boxing Day fun and frolics were possible due to the generosity of land owner Ralph Cook. Thanks also to Geoff and Vicky Taylor for photography; also the observers Kate Baker, Leighanne Baker, Rick Crickmore, Adrian Daish and John Coombes; and to the course setters already mentioned.

The next trial will be on the 8th January at Sweetwater Brook

Very many thanks also to Alan Gosden (Nelly) for all his efforts creating the sections and to all 9 Observers! Debs Payne, Julie Bampied, Jim Foot, Steve Kent, Richard Crickmore, Kate Baker, Leighanne Baker, Adrian Daish & some dodgy looking bloke on section 8! Excellent effort people - it really does make so much difference to have an Observer on every section. Very well done everyone.
